Karate is a study of body mechanics/structures, correct breathing and balance which allow the practitioner to generate efficient movement and seemingly extraordinary amounts of power.  Add to this special awareness, realistic strategies and effective tactics to suit our modern evironment and you have a system of self defence second to none.

And it’s fun for all ages!



The benefits of martial arts are vast. It is about so much more than just punching and kicking. It is about personal development; confidence, respect, integrity, self-control, perseverance, indomitable spirit; whatever your age, gender, fitness level or social background.

It can help you to improve your self-esteem, aid weight loss and increase fitness. All of this whilst teaching you a dynamic and effective form of self defence second to none.

Holistic Karate, Midsomer Norton, is not a new style of martial art.  It is just a more complete and modern approach to teaching martial arts, which has its basis in traditional Shotokan Karate.  However, it also includes some street psychology from modern reality based martial arts and some experiences from other martial arts including Wing Chun, Tai Chi, Combat JuJutsu and others.

Karate was always meant to be a “holistic” martial art; meaning it should be complete, embracing effective self-defence and self-improvement.  At a time when the sport-driven trend in martial arts is to go broad (studying numerous systems together), we aim to narrow the focus so as to go deeper into practical self-defence and martial arts philosophy.

Our martial arts classes are held in Midsomer Norton in a friendly supportive environment and are suitable for all ages and abilities.
