Holistic Karate is a unique blend of traditional mind, body and spirit martial arts in the Midsomer Norton/Radstock area; blended with modern motivational methods and street psychology.
Regular martial arts training with Holistic Karate will improve fitness, health, relaxation of mind and body, flexibility, confidence, focus, respect, self-control, perseverance, indomitable spirit, meditation, self protection and more. Furthermore, training is tailored to the individuals needs, whether you’re 5 or 70.
Holistic Karate is geared to being functional rather than being flashy, which is why Karate is our main style (though we do include influences from Kung Fu, Tai Chi, Reality Based Martial Arts and others styles). We recognise that flashy techniques (especially high spinning kicks) are good for physical development, but we focus on what is functional and actually works under pressure (it’s very important to know the difference). This might make Holistic Karate less exciting to watch then some other martial arts, but second to none when you actually need it for real!
It is hoped that this approach (function over flash) will be taken by the student into other areas of their life outside of their martial arts training, which is so important for personal development. At Holistic Karate we looks deeper into the self development and philosophical side of martial arts which is often neglected today (see Why Karate?)!
What we are most proud of though at Holistic Karate is that of all the martial arts skills we teach, the skill that has been most frequently used in real life situations is de-escalation and dissuasion of the aggressor (no blows needed to be exchanged). To get out of a situation without having to resort to violence is always the best result!
“The art of fighting without fighting”.
Holistic Karate is a very friendly and supportive environment. Some people can find martial arts intimidating and daunting. But if you/your kid(s) want to try martial arts in the Midsomer Norton/Radstock area, don’t worry, we won’t ask you to do anything you’re not capable of. Karate takes a very methodical building block approach to martial arts, teaching you basic skills first then gradually and steadily building and refining those skills. You/your kid(s) will receive a lot of positive encouragement and you never know, you might impress yourself one day!
Holistic Karate is also proud to be part of the British Combat Karate Association; which is part of the British Combat Association – the most respected organisation in the UK for practical, street-wise martial arts.
We have separate martial arts classes teen/adult and children (children from 5 years old).
